Out and About in Great Yarmouth

Great Yarmouth is a coastal town in Norfolk, located at the mouth of the River Yare some 20 miles east of Norwich. Hugely popular with Tourists it has been a seaside resort since the 18th Century. The town itself is on a thin spit of land sandwiched between the North Sea and River Yare and the mouth of the River Yare is the gateway from the Norfolk Broads to the sea.

On the Seafront at Great Yarmouth is Marine Parade (frequently referred to as The Golden Mile), a busy focal point packed with amusements, attractions, adventure golf, pubs, restaurants, beach side cafés, park benches, beach huts and a stunning view over the beach out to sea. This beachside promenade features extra wide pavements and a 'Slow Lane' that has been built for cyclists, the road train and horse-drawn landaus.

The wide, clean, sandy beaches are the most popular draw for visitors with miles of soft sand even at high tide. There are plenty of car parks (paid), toilets and other facilities for visitors. On the beach there are deck chairs for hire, donkey rides, bouncy castles and boat trips to see the seals. Specially designed beach wheelchairs are available to hire from the Tourist Information Centre so everyone can enjoy the beach.

At the northern end of the town stands Britannia Pier while further down Marine Parade towards the southern end is the Wellington Pier.

Great Yarmouth's Central Beach is a glorious sandy beach set between the two Piers, adjacent to Marine Parade. Pets are not allowed on the Central Beach which makes an ideal location for a family day at the seaside. Boat Trips to see the seals and Wind Farm at Scroby Sands leave from the shoreline on a regular schedule.

Great Yarmouth's South Beach is a wide sandy beach with grassy sand dunes set to the south of Wellington Pier. The South Beach is ideal for families and visitors who want a quieter stretch of beach while still being close to all of the attractions and amenities. Dog walking is allowed at any time of year.

Great Yarmouth's North Beach is a sandy beach to the north of the seafront with wide sand dunes facing towards Scroby Sands Wind Farm. Dog walking is allowed at any time of year.
